Ever heard the saying, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.”

FisherKids is a program designed to tech your children responsibility, giving, tithing and money management.

We were graciously given an entire set to review with our children.

It’s incredible! You assign your kids tasks that should be done each week (or even broken down into certain days). Obviously, they will have every day things like brushing teeth, making their bed, etc. and then you have them do additional tasks. Fisher Kids even offers a bucket of wooden sticks that you can write various tasks on and have the kids choose 2, 3, 4 of them to do for the day. Then accordingly they write down the amount they “made” that day. At the end of the week, they turn in their work list and get paid.

My favorite part of this system is that each child has three bags – Spend, Give, Save. My parents were great about teaching me these principles really early on, but many parents do not. The kids are able to see how it works to put their money in each of the bags and allow it to grow, have it to spend or experience giving it to a worthy cause.

In all honestly, my boys at age 3 and 4 aren’t quite able to appreciate most of the aspects of this system. They don’t do the same tasks each day. They aren’t self-sufficient enough to take it over and do it themselves . . . so we’re going to hold on to it for just a couple more years until the boys can really take full advantage of this awesome program.
