Breathtaking . . .

For anyone trying to read these as a series, I apologize for the gaps. We are selling a house, buying another, and starting school this week. But you can go back and read the previous installments while you wait for me to finish this crazy process.

Breakfast was included in our hotel package, so we got up the  next morning and tried to convince the kids that steamed tomatoes, nshima (a doughy substance used to pick up meat) and dried meat and cheese were breakfast foods. In the end, they settled for chunky bacon, cereal and toast.

One of the awesome things about the Zambezi Sun where we stayed was the wildlife that just walked around as if we were a part of their normal ecosystem. Zebras, monkeys and even giraffes! But the giraffes were camera shy and didn't want to come out during the day much.

Before you actually see the falls, you hear a roaring - here in Texas when we hear that sound we know a tornado is bearing down on us. Then you see the mist rising. During the rainy season, the mist is actually so thick that people visiting the falls have almost completely no view of the falls and they end up ringing wet as if they had gone swimming.

And then we hiked over to the falls. There is no way to explain Victoria Falls. It’s massive. It’s beautiful. It’s amazing to stand there and see the expanse and majesty. You can’t help but be floored at the fact that God took the time to not just make this world functional, but also gorgeous.

We were even able to walk around to the top of the falls and wade in the water before it comes down towards the actual edge of the falls themselves. The water was COLD but everyone loved it and it was a nice way to spend the morning.

The pool water at the resort was also quite cold so the kids swam a bit and then we let them go play at the kids entertainment area at the resort. It was about $7 per child, so well worth the few hours of freedom it gave us moms to sit and have lunch without chasing them.

Our hubbies took the opportunity to go back out to the falls and be a bit dare devilish . . .

Then in the early evening we asked some of the others traveling with us to watch our kids – we ordered them room service and put on a kid’s movie. And the mommies and daddies got dressed up and went over to a neighboring hotel – the Royal Livingstone – to enjoy the sunset and the view. My husband said if he’s ever a millionaire, he’s coming back to stay at the Royal Livingstone – oh my, it was gorgeous, regal, and the view was jaw dropping.

If you look to the far left of this picture, you can just see the mist of the falls rising above the horizon.

We found a nice little restaurant – The Squires – not far from our hotel and the food was surprisingly good and the cost was decent, especially compared to the dinner the night before. The best part of this restaurant was they apparently made their own bread, and I could have honestly eaten nothing but that bread with butter every night for dinner and been full and happy.

Everyone went to bed earlier this night because we were headed out to our safari first thing the next morning .  .

One last picture of the falls - this is my husband's favorite.
