Memorial Day Sale at ScoreBig!

Image
If you haven't used your ScoreBig credit that you purchased from Plum District, this weekend is a great time to do that. You don't want to let them expire. They're far too valuable. #1 - Make sure you're registered at ScoreBig . #2 - Find the event you would like to attend. #3 - Decide what amount you would like to offer. The value that works is usually 10-20% less than the "retail" value ScoreBig shows, but feel free to try more. I've gotten tickets up to 70% off before. #4 - Enter your voucher number. Your card WILL NOT be charged if your offer is not accepted. But you will not be allowed to make another offer on those same exact tickets until 24 hours have passed. If you do not have a voucher, you can use the code MDS10  and you'll get $10 FREE towards your first purchase. Or you can purchase a new voucher right now at Plum District - just $6 for $30 !

Worthy Cause: American Widow Project

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a worthy cause with you. But today I thought it was fitting to share the American Widow Project . Taryn Davis lost her 22-year old husband four years ago in Iraq. Four months after her loss, Taryn began the American Widows Project to bring together the almost 3,000 women who have been widowed during the war on terror. The women share and support each other. They find a way to move on and honor the memories of their husbands. On this Memorial Day, my heart breaks for these ladies who have given the most important thing in their life in order to secure my way of life. I can’t even imagine. I’m honestly left speechless trying to come up with an appropriate way to express my gratitude. It’s beyond words. I think the least we can do is help these ladies reach other ladies who have recently lost their husbands. If you are interested in finding a way to support the American Widows Project, you can find more information on www.americanwidowproject.or...

Saying Thank You

Image
Yesterday at church we had a discussion about how quick we are to be annoyed with and criticize each other. But how often do we affirm each other? When was the last time you told someone what you admired about them? When was the last time you told someone that you saw Jesus in them? I’m going to have to be transparent and say that this is not an area that I’m strong in. I’m uncomfortable when other people praise me. It feels good, really good, but it embarrasses me. And typically I don’t embarrass easily. So, I’d like to think that I shy away from lavishing praise on other people because I assume they will feel the same way. But, in reality, I think I frequently find it easier to focus on the negatives – and jump in trying to fix them – rather than focus on the good things and appreciate them. After that conversation, I decided it was time for me to make a concerted effort to find the positives around me and acknowledge them directly and honestly. The same way I try to address probl...

Image
We are headed to spend Memorial Day with Joey’s brothers which is fitting since his brother has been in the military for more than a decade and served twice in Iraq as well as many other locations around the globe. Sometimes it seems like we forget that Memorial Day is about remembering the soldiers who have fought and died for our lives and instead we focus on sales and an extra day off work. I challenge you to make an extra special effort to recognize the military personnel you know or may encounter this weekend. If you are or a family member are in the military, here is a list of great discounts you can take advantage of: Apparel Discounts   Aeropostale - Receive a 20% discount at participating locations with a valid Military ID. Memorial Day Sales: Best Buy Appliances

Image
Joey has some exciting possibilities going on in his life right now - I will have to wait to share the details. Hopefully it all pans out. But we think the odds are good enough that we went out last night to celebrate. Being the frugal people that we have become since having children and cutting our income in over half, we couldn't bring ourselves to actually spend money on anything besides what we ate . . . but we did lots of window shopping and day dreaming. One of the things we will need in the not too distant future is a washer and dryer set. Both of our's still work, but the washing machine randomly puts pin size holes in our clothing and the dryer does not shut off automatically anymore so we have to be careful not to burn the house down or shrink our clothes so much they fit our kids. While at Best Buy (in the new Fairview Village, for you locals) the guy working told us that they are running a special this weekend on all their Energy Star appliances - where there is...

Memorial Day Sales: Home Depot

Image
When Joey and I wanted to do some inexpensive remodeling, our first step was to buy paint. The best time we found to do that was when Home Depot was offering one of their paint rebates . . . and sometimes on top of that there will be clearance paint to use it on. The good news is that this weekend Home Depot is offering a Memorial Day rebate which gives you $5 back on purchases of 1 gallon cans and $20 back on purchases of 5 gallon buckets! You can submit this rebate online or mail in the form and purchases must be made between May 27th - 31st.
